Lewis Elementary School
A LEED Silver replacement elementary school serving 1,016 students, organized into grade-level clusters and anchored by a ceramic mural by artist Dixie Friend Gay.
Project Overview
MWA Architects designed this replacement elementary school to serve 1,016 students in a modern, sustainable learning environment organized into grade-level clusters with shared activity spaces, teacher planning areas, and student restrooms. The campus includes science classrooms, computer labs, art and music rooms, and a dedicated special education suite to support a comprehensive educational program.
Community Identity
A distinctive ceramic mural by artist Dixie Friend Gay serves as the focal point of the main entrance, reinforcing the school's identity and connection to the community.
Sustainability and Phasing
The project achieved LEED Silver certification and required careful phasing, including demolition of the original campus, acquisition of adjacent properties for future playfields, and temporary relocation of students to a nearby modular campus during construction.
