Stafford Early Childhood Center
The transformation of a former intermediate school into an early childhood center serving infants through kindergarten, with age-appropriate learning spaces and ADA improvements.
Project Overview
MWA Architects partnered with Stafford Municipal School District to transform a former intermediate school into the Stafford Early Childhood Center, serving infants through kindergarten.
Reconfigured Learning Spaces
The renovation reconfigured existing spaces to support early childhood education, including converting former restrooms into classroom support areas and dividing two classrooms into four age-appropriate learning spaces featuring built-in casework, play areas, changing stations, and storage. The project also renovated the gymnasium, library, and cafeteria; upgraded mechanical systems, including air handling units; and improved accessibility to meet ADA requirements.
Site Improvements
Site improvements included a new dedicated early childhood entrance, enhanced parent parking and circulation, and two ADA-accessible playgrounds designed to support young learners.
